National Conference on Friday expressed concern over withholding of wages of daily wagers working in different departments, saying the government must support their livelihood.
While expressing concern over the plight of daily wagersworking in various departments including PDD, the party’s additionalspokesperson Sarah Hayat Shah said, “It is highly unbecoming of the governmentto withhold their salaries. Most of them are presently working on ground,battling the challenges that COVID19 has thrown at us. Given the fact thatthese employees are working day-in and day-out to sustain the effectiveamenities for people by overlooking hazards, they should have been given moreincentives,” Shah said, in a statement.
The additional spokesperson said government was duty boundto look after the laborers, who eke out their living by doing manual workincluding cabbies, hawkers, and street vendors.”I hope thegovernment rises up to the challenges that the present situation has thrown atus. I urge the government to address the concerns of the employees by doingaway with pay anomalies in case of contractual workers, and disbursing theirmonthly wages on time,” she said.
