Er Rasheed flays authorities for withdrawing permission to hoist state flag

President of the Awami Ithad Party (AIP) Er Rasheed on Friday castigated the authorities for withdrawing the permission to hoist state flag here.

In a statement Er Rasheed said, “It’s for the first time inpast eight years the state flag could not be raised in Srinagar asadministration withdrew the permission for the same at the eleventh hour.”

“The sanctity andsignificance of state flag will be protected at any cost. The CentralGovernment should respect the constitutional guarantees given to people of thestate,” Er Rasheed said.

He asked the Government to come clean and answer why it hadto withdraw the permission at the last movement and thus disallowed an eventwhich has been taken place for the past seven years.

“By withdrawing the permission administration has showndisrespect towards the state flag. By using unconstitutional means successive governmentscannot hide or distort historic facts. The significance of 7th June cannot bedown played as on this day in 1952 constituent assembly passed a resolution andgave state its own flag and state song. It is unfortunate that from late SheikhSahab to Mehbooba Mufti, no Chief Minister ever took any concrete step toprotect the sanctity of the state flag,” Er Rasheed said.

He lashed out at NC and PDP for what he said, “making falsepromises to protect the special status of state.”  “Their silence on disrespect being showntowards the state flag by the administration has exposed their true face andthey as usual are becoming part of the conspiracy against the special status ofthe state.”
