Er Rasheed’s solidarity march foiled
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday detained AwamiItihad Party (AIP) chairman and MLA LangateEr Rasheed when he tried to take out a protest march here.
Scores of AIP workers led by Er Rasheed took out a march from Sher-e-Kashmir Park to Press Enclave to express solidarity with Muslims of Jammu region which, they claimed, were feeling unsafe.
Protesters raised slogans in support of TalibHussain and plebiscite. Calling the killing of Murfad Shah as a pre-planned murder, the protesters demanded safety for the Muslims in Jammu region.
Shah was shot dead by armed guards at the residence of the National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah last week. The family members of Shah have been demanding registration of FIR against the accused force personnel.
They said the protest march was also staged to support Article 35-A and Article 370. However, a heavy contingent of police prevented the protesters from moving towards LalChowk near Pratap Park and detained Er Rasheed along with two dozen party activists.
Earlier, talking to media persons, Er Rasheed "warned state administration of dire consequences if it doesn't stop playing in the hands of communal forces."
"The credible inputs suggest that in around 16 localities in Jammu region nomads and Gujjars are being asked to leave their ancestral places," he claimed. He urged all to maintain unity and reiterated AIP's support to separatist leadership.
He also demanded withdrawal of "false case against advocate TalibHussain" and sought an independent probe in the "entire conspiracy" and added that the move is just to dilute Kathua rape and murder case.
