Police have arrested two persons, including a former Special Police Officer (SPO), for allegedly gang-raping a woman in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Eid.
A complaint was lodged by parents and neighbors of a woman in Police Station Lalpora Kupwara, stating that the woman had been raped by two persons identified as Jaffar Ahmad Khan resident of Divar and Manzoor Ahmad Lone resident of Dardpora, said a police spokesman.
On the receipt of this complaint, an FIR number 74/16 under section 363, 376 RPC, and 109 CrPC has been lodged in Police Station Lalpora. Both the accused have been arrested, he said.
Sources said that one of the accused, Manzoor Ahmad was working as Special Police Officer (SPO) until 2006. When contacted SDPO Lolab, Hilal Kaliq said that the medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape. "Unmarried woman has said in her complain that she was taken by her foster brother Jaffar Khan for an outing in the village on Eid.
According to the lady, both the persons Jaffar Khan and Manzoor Lone forcibly took her in the nearby forest and raped her in their car, he said.
"Police acted swiftly and arrested both the accused persons and seized the car which was used in the crime. An FSL team has even taken the samples of the car which was used in the crime" he added.
Meanwhile incident has triggered wide spread condemnation. The locals have demanded stern punishment for the accused.
