‘Extortionists gang busted in Budgam, 4 arrested’

Srinagar, Nov 6: Police in Budgam Saturday busted a gang of extortionists by arresting four persons involved in the commission of the crime.

A statement of J&K Police issued here said that the extorted cash, dummy weapons, and other materials used in the commission of crime had also been recovered from their possession.

It said that on 23 August 2021, Police Station Beerwah received a written complaint from a person Tawseef Ahmad Bhat of RawatporaKhag stating that on the evening of 22 August 2021, he along with his neighbourSaqib Ahmed Dar were on his way home after closing his Khidmatcentre when some masked persons stopped them while crossing the Shuknag stream.

The statement said that after displaying weapons, they thrashed them and robbed them of Rs 1.5 lakh cash that they were carrying with them.

It said that on the receipt of this complaint, a case under FIR No 121/2021 was registered at Police Station Beerwah and an investigation started.

The Police statement said that during the investigation, a suspect Feroz Ahmad Wani of Pethzanigam was zeroed in on who during questioning revealed his involvement in the commission of the crime.

It said that he also disclosed the involvement of two more associates Asif Ahmad Ahanger of Bonzanigam and Bilal Ahmad Malik of Pethzanigam in the commission of crime following which they were also arrested.

The statement said that on their disclosure, a dummy AK-47, robbed cash of Rs 33,300, and face covers were recovered from the shed constructed in the orchards of Ahanger, one of the accused.

It said that the dummy AK-47 was made by a carpenter Abdul Momin Shah of Pethzanigam who was also arrested.
