Farooq welcomes reservation for people living along IB in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed granting of reservation to people living near the international border in J& K.

In a statement Dr Farooq said, “The reservation on similarlines should have been given to people along international border falling inother states of the country.”

   

He said that the National Conference welcomes the step ofgiving the benefits of reservation to people living near international borderin J&K. “The reservation will be beneficial to the people living nearborder areas, the benefits of the reservation in jobs, promotion and educationalinstitutions will help them  rise on theladder of growth,” adding, “However the GOI should not have singled out theJ&K only in this regard; it would have been better if reservation onsimilar lines should have been given to people living in the border areasfalling in other states like Arunachal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Gujrat,Mizoram, Punjab,” he said.

Party president said that the measure would improvecondition of living of the people near the international border line inJ&K. “However people living along international border in other states areequally vulnerable and less developed as their counter parts in the J&K. Iurge the central government to dole out the reservations to people living alonginternational border in other states,” he added.
