Intense clashes broke out in Khanyar locality of Downtown Srinagar as the news of reported killing of a local militant in a gunfight with the government forces in Fateh Kadal locality reached there.
Two militants were killed in the gunfight that broke out in Fateh Kadal early today morning.
PTI news agency identified them as Mehraj ud Din Bangroo of Fateh Kadal and Faid Mushtaq Waza of Khanyar. However, officials were yet to identify the slain militants.
The son of house owner was also killed in the gunfight. He was identified as Rayees.
An eye witness said that youth took to streets and clashed with the forces in Kaw mohalla area of Khanyar as the news of death of Waza reached there.
The forces, he said, retaliated by firing tear gas and pellets.
