Father-daughter duo killed, 8 injured in Magerkote accident

Ramban: A father-daughter duo died while eight other persons sustained injuries when a heavily-loaded truck rammed into four vehicles at Magerkote along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday.

Police said, “An Alto car overturned when a heavily loaded truck rammed into four vehicles coming from the opposite direction on Jammu Srinagar National Highway at Magerkote falling under jurisdiction of Ramsoo Police Station.”

   

“35-year old Jatinder Singh, a resident of Tral in Kulgam and his 4-year old daughter Nardeep Kour were killed in the accident while eight others sustained injuries. All of them were travelling towards Jammu,” police said.

“The truck bearing registration number HP38F-6278 was heading towards Srinagar from Jammu. Near Magerkote, it rammed into a tempo traveller bearing registration number JK01W-3416 coming from the opposite direction. This resulted in a collision with three other cars which rammed each other. As a consequence, an Alto car, bearing registration number JK13E-8524, overturned at the accident site,” the police added.

A Qualis, bearing registration number JK0G-6723 and a TaTa Sumo, bearing registration number JK19-1270 also suffered damages in this accident.

The police with the help of locals rushed other 8 injured to a government facility i.e., PHC Ramsoo where from two critical injured, identified as Ranveer Kour, wife of Jatinder Singh, resident of Tral Kulgam and Jaswinder Singh, son of Shammi Singh, resident of Una Himachal Pradesh were referred to Sub District Hospital Banihal.

Police said six other injured passengers, identified as Bhagwan Dass, son of Ravela, resident of Halwagan in tehsil Ramsoo; Waseem Ahmad, son of Samiullah, resident Pattan, Baramulla; Taj Din son of Noor Din, resident of Ameernagar Doda, Rafiya Bano, daughter of Noor Din, resident of Ameernagar Doda; Mohammed Ashraf and his wife Shamima Bano, resident of Noorabad Doda were admitted at PHC Ramsoo.

SSP Ramban PD Nitya confirmed that two persons died on spot while 8 passengers were injured in this accident.

An eyewitness told Greater Kashmir that the cars were damaged by the impact of the accident. The passengers were trapped inside the vehicles till the locals, joined by the police, rescued them.

A case for rash driving and causing death by negligence was registered against the driver at Ramsoo police station. “The truck was seized, however, the driver of the truck involved in the accident fled. A special police team led by DSP Banihal was constituted to nab him,” informed an officer.
