Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday lodged an FIR against former judge and National Conference (NC) leader Syed Tauqeer for allegedly inciting violence against the forest department officials while addressing a rally in Kokernag area a few days ago.
The FIR was registered at police station Larnoo in Kokernag.
On Thursday, a video showing the NC leader allegedlyinciting a group of locals at Matribugh to attack the forest departmentemployees, went viral on the social media.
"I have been told that the forest department is closing yourroads. Now you have my permission and if any of them (forest employees) comesagain, chop their hands and feet and tell them that NC's nominated candidatehas given you the permission," Syed Tauqeer can be heard in the purported videotelling his workers.
Greater Kashmir had earlier reported that the districtadministration Anantnag is verifying the contents of the video.
NC on its Twitter handle had said that they don't endorsethe remarks of their leader.
"We have seen thevideo of Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, JKNC segment in charge Kokernag. The party doesnot endorse this sort of language or these sorts of threats. Syed Tauqeer hasbeen spoken to and advised to exercise more care when choosing his words. Wehave been assured by him that this was a momentary lapse in the heat of themoment and will not be repeated. We hope the matter is allowed to end here,"the Twitter handle of the party read.
The tweet was later re-tweeted by NC vice president andformer Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
