Government forces on Friday used teargas shelling to foil proposed pro-freedom rallies in Old Barzualla, Natipora and Rambagh areas in uptown Srinagar.
Reports and witnesses said that forces fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse protesters who were preparing to take out the rally after Friday congregational prayers.
Protestors from Natipora and Old Barzulla were planning to march towards Rambagh.
Joint resistance leadership has urged people to hold freedom congregation post Friday prayers at a mutually agreed place in the locality.
Clashes erupted at these places as locals alleged that forces went berserk and beat up inmates and broke window panes.
Protests and clashes were going on when last reports came in.
