Forces lay siege to Shopian village in south Kashmir

Government forces launched a cordon and search operation at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday morning.

A police official told Greater Kashmir that a joint team of the army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel ring fenced Sugan village and began a door to door search operation.

The operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the area, he said.

The operation, according to the official, was called off as no militant was found in the area.
