Former NC MLA arrested in Pulwama for ‘thrashing’ policeman

Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and National Conference (NC) District President, Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir was arrested after he allegedly thrashed a policeman in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday. However, Mir’s family denied the charges.

A Police official said that Mir “roughed up” a head constable of Police guarding the NC office after he did not allow journalists to meet Mir “as per the orders of his higher ups”.

He said that Mir first argued with the Policeman and then lost his cool and beat him up.

The policeman identified as Head Constable Abdul Ghani was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The Police official said that an FIR was registered against Mir and he was arrested immediately.

However, Mir’s son, Arif denied the Police allegations saying that Mir protested after the policeman did not allow journalists to meet the journalists who had come to interview him.

Confirming the arrest of his father, Arif said Police had not yet provided the copy of an FIR to them.

He said that Mir was under detention at the NC office since August 2019 and was not allowed to visit home since then.
