Fuel stocks in Baramulla likely to run out within days

Petrol, diesel and LPG stocks available in Baramulla district on Friday were likely to run out within days if fresh supplies don’t reach the district soon, say dealers who have already started rationing the fuel as directed by the divisional administration.

There are about 1.95 lakh litres of petrol and 2.15 lakh litres of diesel stocks left in the district with frsh supplies stopped due to continuous closure of the Jammu-Srinagar highway due to bad weather.

“If supply is not restored soon, then it can lead to crisis,” said Arif Hussain, owner of a petrol pump.

Domestic gas is also running short in the district and the 9000 LPG cylinders are enough for just one week, officials say.

But other essential stocks of food and kerosene oil (456000 litres) is sufficient to last several months.

Officials figure show all the 77 winter dumping stations across Baramulla district are filled with the essential stock of rice, wheat and sugar and will not exhaust till November.

“We have sufficient amount of essential stock available, including rice, sugar and Kerosene oil. The stock will not exhaust before November. As such there is nothing to worry,” said Mudasir Ahmad, Assistant Director, CAPD, Baramulla.
