Reports said that LeT militant outfit had dispatched letters to religious leaders of all major mosques in the town asking them to offer absentia funeral prayers for the militants killed in 48-hour encounter at EDI.
The religious leaders read out the letter of LeT after Friday prayers: "We appeal people of Pampore to offer absentia funeral prayers of slain militants after Friday prayers. We are very thankful to people of Pampore for supporting militants." Following the appeal, people offered funeral prayers in absentia in major mosques of the town including Khankah-i-Moula, Ameer Kabir masjid, Masjid Gani, Bazar Masjid Drangbal, Masjid Siddique, Jamiat Ahli-hadees majid.
Later people took out a rally from Khankah-i-Moula to Bus stand at Drangabal.
Earlier, government had not allowed the funeral prayers in absentia of the slain militants in the town.
A day before, Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani had also called people to offer absentia funeral prayers of slain militants, but authorities scuttled the move.
The town has been on boil since Saturday when militants attacked a CRPF party, killing two of their men, and commandeered EDI building for 48 hours killing three more commandoes of army.
