Ganderbal police arrest man for uploading fake information

Police here today arrested an alleged rumour monger who had purportedly uploaded fake information about a local youth that he has joined militancy.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone said that on Wednesday a photograph of a person namely Aqib Farooq Mir son of Farooq Ahmad Mir of Beehama Ganderbal was circulated on the social media falsely claiming that he has joined militancy.

   

However, it was found that the person is innocent and is working as a shopkeeper at Beehama Chowk, Ganderbal, he said.

He said his family members had received many calls from relatives regarding this incident due to which his parents got worried.

“During preliminary investigation Ganderbal police arrested one rumour monger namely Manzoor Ahmad Ganie son of Muhammad Munawar Ganie of Tulmulla who had circulated this photograph on a whatsapp group,” the SSP told Greater Kashmir.

“Investigation is on to ascertain the motive and objective of the miscreants behind such incident,” he added.

The SSP appealed to the people not to pay any heed to the rumours being spread on social networking sites and approach the police in case of any such incident.

A police official said a case FIR 46/2018 under section 153, 505 / RPC has been registered in police station Ganderbal.
