Geelani barred from offering Friday prayers yet again

The government once again disallowed Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman to offer congregational Friday prayers evoking strong criticism from the amalgam led by the aged leader.

Geelani was supposed to offer Friday prayers at Masjid-e-Iqra, Lal Chowk. He was, however, stopped by the policemen deployed outside his residence.

Lashing out at the authorities for not allowing him to move out of his house, Geelani said that the government has unleashed a reign of terror as every day innocent people were getting killed. “We are not even allowed to offer Friday prayers. Today, we had planned to stage a peaceful protest against unabated civilian killings,” Geelani said in a statement issued here.

“Kashmiris will continue with their struggle till final goal is achieved. Sacrifices of youth won’t go waste and nobody will be allowed to play with their sacrifices. We will never surrender or succumb to pressure but will pursue our cherished mission till it is taken to its logical conclusion,” said Geelani.

He said nowhere on earth, such repressive measures are being employed by the authorities. The aged leader urged youth to remain steadfast and show commitment against the “state terrorism.”

Geelani expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of senior resistance leader Shabir Ahmad Shah in Tihar Jail. “He is suffering from multiple ailments but is denied the medical treatment. The incarcerated leader is being subjected to political vendetta,” Geelani said
