Geelani chairs Majlis shoora meet

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday chaired an extraordinary meeting of Hurriyat Majlis shoora (consultative body) at his Hyderpora residence here, a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.

Geelani, according to the spokesman, discussed at length theprevailing political situation of Jammu and Kashmir.  He said after taking a serious note of thebroad discussion, opinions and proposals put forward by Shoora members, Geelaniin his presidential address said that “the people of Kashmir are engaged in alegitimate democratic and political movement for right to self-determination.We have been subjugated for our genuine political beliefs. We condemn the useof brute force and might to suppress the sentiments of the people.”

   

He advised Majlis Shoora not to succumb to the pressure.”Kashmir is a political and human issue which needs an early resolutionaccording to the wishes and aspirations of the people, for a prosperoussubcontinent,” he said.

Geelani urged the United Nations to use its officialposition and “prevail upon New Delhi to display its willingness to resolve thislong pending issue in the larger interests of permanent peace and progress ofthe entire South Asia.”

The meeting, according to the spokesman, hailed thesteadfastness and commitment displayed by all our prisoners of conscience  languishing in and outside jails.

The meeting, he said, condemned strongly the banningJamaat-e-Islami, a purely religious organisation and Jammu and KashmirLiberation Front.

The meeting decided to organise a seminar in relation to”Message of Ramadan” at Hyderpora on 26 May, 2019.

Leaders, who participated in the meeting included, HajiGhulam Nabi Sumji, Bashir Ahmad Indrabi, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Syed MuhammadShafi, Ghulam  Muhammad Nagoo, MuhammadYaseen Aataie, Muhammad Maqbool Magami, Arshad Aziz, Khawaja Firdous Ahmad,Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Zamrooda Habib, Bilal AhmadSidqui and G. A. Gulzar.

Meanwhile, Geealni condemned the arrest of Javed Hussain of Dachan Kishtwar. “He (Hussain)has been incarcerated by the police at the pretext that his son has joinedmilitant rank and files in Kishtwar. It’s sheer vendetta. Father and son cannotbe punished in lieu of each other for having different ideologies.”

He also condemned the summoning of his two daughters by NIAto its Delhi Office and the frequent raids of the forces at odd times andwithout having any legal or moral justification.
