Geelani concerned over loss of lives in LoC flare up, urges restraint

Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Saturday expressed concern over the loss of lives in the ongoing cross-border firing along the Line of control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Geelani said that shelling has resulted into loss of lives and property along the LoC, while people living in close proximity of the border have to flee from their homes, thereby putting them under psychological and physical stress.

The Hurriyat (G) chairman termed the ongoing assault along the LoC as a deliberate attempt of India to draw attention away from the Kashmir issue and mislead its own population about it.

Reacting on the recent statement of home minister Rajnath Singh, wherein he had stated that India will give befitting reply to Pakistan, Geelani said that both the countries should exercise restraint and make efforts to solve Kashmir issue.

“War is no option. Instead it causes devastation and destruction. Both India and Pakistan are nuclear countries. Any flare up can prove extremely detrimental,” said Geelani, in the statement.
