Geelani concerned over plight of Kashmiri detainees

Chairman Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani has expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri detainees lodged within and outside the state.

In a statement Hurriyat spokesperson said that they have been informed by the families of various detainees that they are being subjected to harassment in the jails.

   

” The Kashmiri detainees are being denied medicare and other necessary facilities,” the statement said.

 Geelani also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of DFP chief Shabir Ahmad Shah. 

The statement said the “pro-freedom leadership is being framed under frivolous charges for standing for the legitimate demand of right to self determination.”

” The pro-freedom leadership – Dr Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, Ayaz Akbar, Muhamad Altaf Shah, Peer Saifullah, Mehraju Din Kalwal ,Shahid ul Islam, Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Shahid Yousuf and  Muhammad Salim Wani are all being lodged in Tihar jail for no crime at all,” it said.

“Government has been continuously booking pro-freedom leader Masrat Alam under draconian PSA for last eight years.  Every time court orders quashing of his detention under PSA, police comes up with another one,” the statement said. 

Geelani also expressed concern over the “ill-treatment” being met to inmates lodged in Srinagar central jail and shifting outside around 50 detainees including Dr Shafi Shariyati, Dr Qasim Faktoo, Dr Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Tariq Ahmad Dar and Maznoor Ahmad  serving life imprisonment besides –  Ghulam Muhamd  Khan Sopori, Muhamd Yousuf Mir, Muhamad Yousuf Falahi, Shakeel Itoo, Mir Hafizullah, Mir Hamza Shah, Abdul Gani Bhat, Abdul Aziz Ganai, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Muhammad Ashraf Malik, Manzoor Ahmad Kaloo, Muhammad Shaban Khan, Ajaz Ahmad Pahroo, Abdul Khaliq Rigoo, Mufti Abdul Ahad Rather, Muhamad Subhan Wani, Hakim ul Rehman , Naseer Ahmad Ganai, Manzoor Ahmad War, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmad, Farooq Tawheedi and others.
