Geelani concerned over use of ‘chemical weapons’ against militants
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today expressed deep concern over the reports about the alleged use of chemical weapons and agents by the government forces against militants during encounters, appealing to the international community to take cognizance of this violation of human norms and hold a probe into it.
"Indian forces are using chemical agents against our brave hearts. It is a serious violation of human norms and is against Chemical Weapons Convention," Geelani, in a statement today, said, while referring to Bahmnoo Pulwama encounter, adding that "India is engaging all its military might against unarmed and innocent people in the state and trampling all humanitarian rights of civilians. Indian forces during encounters besiege a large area and during encounters the residential houses are blasted and razed to the ground. At times these forces make innocents including children as human shields and with the result the people feel insecure even in their houses."
Referring to reports of revelations made by the eye witnesses about the Bahmnoo encounter, charring of bodies and use of chemical weapons, Geelani said, "The bodies of militants were charred beyond recognition."
