Geelani defies curfew, detained

Police Wednesday detained Hurriyat Conference (G) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani at Hyderpora when he tried to move towards to Naqashbandh Sahib on the occasion of Martyrs Day.

Police Wednesday detained Hurriyat Conference (G) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani at Hyderpora when he tried to move towards to Naqashbandh Sahib on the occasion of Martyrs Day.

Eye witnesses told Greater Kashmir that Geelani came out from his Hyderpora residence at 10:20am.

"The police deployed outside his residence were unaware about his intentions. Geelani started marching from his residence and reached at main road (Airport Road)," they said.

They added as Geelani along with scores of his associates started march towards the Martyrs Graveyard at Naqashbandh Sahib where 21 Martyrs of 1931 are buried, police swung into action and detained him.

He was reportedly taken to Police Station Humhama.
