Geelani pyas tributes to youth killed in Shopian

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has paid rich tributes to a militant Muhammad Irfan Bhat of Pulwama and a civilian Shahid Manzoor Mir who were killed during a gunfight in Shopian on Saturday.

In a statement here Geelani expressed “Deep grief over the killings in Shopian and extended his condolences with bereaved family of slain civilian Shahid Manzoor Mir.”

In a statement here Geelani paid tributes to the young souls and blamed “stubborn attitude” of New Delhi for continuous bloodshed in the state. “People in state are facing war like situation for the past several decades,” he added.

“People of the state, keeping in view the precious sacrifices by our youth shall keep a close vigil on the ongoing movement so that it reaches its destination. The exemplary sacrifices given by our nation for a sacred mission of right to self-determination makes it mandatory for all of us to take this movement to its logical conclusion without making any compromise,” Geelani said in a statement.

He said, “New Delhi is pushing our youth to wall and compelling them to take extreme steps.”

He hailed the resilience and steadfastness of people in the state. “Authorities are relying on their military might to suppress people’s aspirations and muzzle their voices,” Geelani said.

He condemned the “use of force” against the civilians. “On the pretext of search and cordon operations common people are deliberately targeted and victimized by the men in uniform. People are killed, harassed, tortured and threatened of dire consequences under the garb of these operations. In this grim situation the life of common people has became miserable and vulnerable in every nook and corner of the state,” Geelani said.

Appealing the United Nations Human Rights Commission to take cognizance of the “gross violation of human rights” in J&K Geelani reiterated his demand that the civilized nations of the international community must rise to the occasion and help the subjugated people.
