Governor’s remarks about Hurriyat leaders unacceptable: Lawyers

Reacting sharply to Governor Satyapal Malik’s remarks about Hurriyat leaders, a group of Kashmir based lawyers today said, “These remarks betray his (Governer’s) lack of knowledge about Kashmir history.”

Kashmir based 50 lawyers, who are also the members of High Court Bar Association (HCBA), issued a joint statement saying,  “We, in our own capacity, condemn the statement made by the Governor of J&K, which he made 26 October 2018.”

Governor had on Thursday said, “Without asking Pakistan, Hurriyat does not even go to toilet. So till they don’t keep Pakistan aside, there will not be any dialogue process with them. Holding dialogue is the job of government of India.”

“We feel that such a statement made by the Governor shows lack of his knowledge about the history of J&K State and using of language against the Hurriyat leaders which is headed by a veteran scholar and pious person Syed Ali Shah Geelani is also deplorable,” the lawyers said in a joint statement stated.
