Govt orders magisterial probe into Hyderpora encounter

Srinagar, Nov 18: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that a magisterial inquiry led by an officer of ADM rank has been ordered into the Hyderpora gunfight in which four people were killed.

“A magisterial inquiry by officer of ADM rank has been ordered in Hyderpora encounter.Govt will take suitable action as soon as report is submitted in a time-bound manner. JK admin reiterates commitment of protecting lives of innocent civilians&it will ensure there is no injustice,” tweeted the office of the LG.

   

Police said four people, including a foreign militant and his associate from J&K’s Ramban district, were killed in the gunfight on Monday night. As per IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, Mohammad Altaf Bhat, the owner of the building where the gunfight took place and one Mudasir Gul, an OGW as per police were killed “in cross fire” a claim contested by their families.

The families have been on a sit-in since the killings and held a candle light protest on Wednesday night while demanding the bodies. But police forcibly removed the family members and briefly detained a few of them in a midnight raid.

The slain duo has been buried by the police in far flung Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara citing “law and order”.
