Government model (girls) cluster school at Sohipora here is in dismal condition due to want of basic facilities. The school vicinity has also become a safe haven for drug abusers.

The pathetic condition of classrooms is reflected by its broken and defaced walls. The classrooms are without matting and proper roof.

The school with six classrooms, 70 students and eight teachers has just one toilet. 

The school is located on the outskirts of the Kupwara town. "It is very difficult to believe that we are being taught in these unsafe buildings for years now. The crumbling room walls pose a serious threat to our and our teachers' lives. We fear they may fall anytime," the students of the school to Greater Kashmir.

"No effort was made to repair these walls so far," the students added.

The students said they face lot of inconvenience as the school has only one toilet for the teachers as well as the students. "During classes, whenever we need to go to washroom we have to wait for turn for some time," a student said.  

Besides classrooms and toilets, the school lacks proper road connectivity, electricity, clean drinking water and fencing.

"The close vicinity of the school has turned into a safe haven for drug addicts who are often found there during evening time," many parents and locals complained.

When contacted, zonal education officer concerned Fareed Ahmad said, "The school will soon have better classrooms, toilets and fencing so that students won't suffer more, as it has been put in the recent development plan."
