Suspected militants on Friday hurled a grenade through UBGL at the residence of a former MLA of National Conference in Tral township of Pulwama district.

The UBGL grenade was hurled at the residence of former legislator late Muhammad Subhan Bhat in Hamami Mohalla of Tral township at 2:50 pm. The grenade hit the roof of an adjoining house and exploded without causing any loss of life.

The blast caused panic in the township and in no time people start running towards their homes. The shopkeepers in the area downed their shutters and traffic disappeared from the roads.

Soon after the incident, paramilitary troopers rushed to the spot and conducted searches to nab the assailants.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, late Bhat's son Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, who is also associated with the NC said: "At the time of attack I had gone out to offer Friday prayers and fortunately no one from my family was hurt in the attack."

Pertinently this is the second grenade attack on late Bhat's residence. Earlier, on May 29, militants lobbed a UBGL grenade which landed inside the compound of the house and exploded without causing any causality.
