Gulmarg burglary case solved, 5 including a cable car official arrested: Police

Police on Tuesday said they have solved the Gulmarg cable car burglary case by arresting five persons involved in the theft. Among the five arrested burglars is an employee of the cable car corporation who according to police was the mastermind of the theft.

The burglary happened on Sunday, as the culprits decampedwith Rs 50 lakh cash from the locker of the Gondola cable car office.

   

The cash as per cable car corporation officials was meant tobe deposited in the bank, however owing to bank holiday on Saturday and Sundaywas kept in the office locker.

While addressing a press conference at Gulmarg on Tuesday,SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom said: “After watching CCTV footage in which movementof some persons around the Gulmarg bowl was noticed, one of the suspects BashirAhmad Shah alias MLA, resident of Gund Dalwach was identified and laterdetained for questioning.”

“After sustained questioning, Shah disclosed the name of hisfour accomplices and they were immediately arrested.”

The arrested have been identified as Abdul Ahad Ganai S/O AbRehman Ganie R/O Hardichloo (employee of Cable Car Corporation), Abdul MajeedLone S/O Ghulam Ahmad Lone R/O Chanpora, Imtiyaz Bhat S/O Ghulam Qadir R/OHardichloo, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh S/O Mohammad Abdullah R/O Chuntipathri.

The investigation has revealed that Abdul Ahad Ganai is themastermind of the burglary who hatched the whole plan. Besides he providedvital information to the group how to execute the plan and the layout of thecashier room.

According to the police an amount of Rs 39 lakhs has beenrecovered from the arrested burglars.

Police said two of the arrested persons, Imtiyaz Ahmad andAbdul Majeed, are also involved in other cases of thefts in the area.
