Gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces after the latter launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Mujgund area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday.
A senior police official said a joint team of the police and CRPF cordoned off Mujgund on specific information about the presence of militants.
He said that the gunfight broke out after the forces fired some speculative shots during the searches.
On Twitter, police confirmed that an exchange of fire took place between the militants and the forces in Mujgund on Bandipora road.
