The residents of remote area of Gurez in north Kashmir's Bandipora district have demanded resumption of chopper service as the Bandipora-Gurez road remained closed for 5th straight day on Tuesday.

The residents said that they were suffering immensely due to closure of the road, the only connecting link to the rest of the valley.

"Bandipora-Gurez road is closed since Friday after the area witnessed heavy snowfall. Due to the closure of road, we have been suffering a lot. Last year, the government had started chopper service during winter months to mitigate our sufferings," said Muhammad Ismail, a resident of Achoora.

The residents said that even if the road is opened it is too risky to commute on it because of slippery condition and strong winds on Razdan Paas.

Last year, government had introduced a chopper service for border area of Gurez from Srinagar to Gurez and Bandipora to Gurez at highly subsidized rates.
