Guv to chair all-party meet today

Governor Narendra Nath Vohra will be seeking suggestions from the state’s political parties during an all party meeting he has convened Friday afternoon, an official source told Greater Kashmir. The representatives of all the major and smaller parties including Peoples Democratic Party, National Conference, BJP and Congress are expected attend the meeting tomorrow afternoon.

The meeting comes after his separate meetings with the administrative secretaries and security officials on Wednesday, hours after the Governor’s rule was imposed in the state.

Though the agenda of the meeting is not known, Vohra is understood to seek cooperation from all political parties in order to run the affairs of the state in the absence of an elected government.

“He may also seek their views on how to bring Kashmir out of the prevailing uncertainty and other issues confronting people in the state,” the source said.

During the meeting, some political parties may press for dissolution of the state assembly to pave way for fresh elections in the state.

J&K came under Governor’s rule on Thursday after the BJP withdrew its support to Mehbooba Mufti-led government, citing “larger national interest” and “worsening situation in Kashmir”.

After imposition of the Governor’s rule, the Legislative Assembly whose term would end on March 16, 2021 has been put under suspended animation.

The opposition National Conference and Panthers Party are seeking immediate dissolution of the legislative assembly and have demanded that fresh elections held in the state.

BJP, PDP and Congress have already expressed their inability to form government in the state.
