HCBA demands release of Bar president

The executive committee members of J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar today expressed serious concern over the health of its president Mian Abdul Qayoom who is presently detained in Tihar Jail.

The bar in a statement said in view of the coronavirusspreading across the country, its president who is suffering from multipleailments “can be vulnerable to the coronavirus.”

   

“Under these circumstances, the bar feels worried about thehealth of its ailing president Mian Abdul Qayoom, advocate, who is underdetention since August 4, 2019 and is presently in Tihar Jail, Delhi,” thestatement said.

The bar statement said: As per the health condition of thepresident, who is in his advanced age surviving on single kidney and issuffering from various chronic ailments which include diabetes, hypertension,severe nerve damage, prostate and 60% blockage in one of the arteries of heart,he is more prone to the deadly virus. “As per the advisories issued by the Health Ministry and doctors fromtime to time, the virus is more dangerous for the people who are having weekimmune system, advanced age and/or already involved in ailments,” the statementsaid.

The members demanded the immediate release of politicalprisoners detained within and outside J&K, especially its president and thegeneral secretary.

“The J&K High Court Bar Association demand and stressupon the concerned authorities to release immediately and unconditionally itspresident and general secretary,” the statement said.  Meanwhile, bar has called a meeting of itsexecutive committee members on 17 March 2020 at 1:30 PM in the bar president’sroom at High Court Complex, Srinagar to discuss “various important issues”.
