Heroin addiction on rise in J&K: IGP Crime

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime, Syed Ahfadul on Saturday  said that the heroin addiction in Jammu and Kashmir is increasing with each passing day.

Talking to a local news agency KNS, the IGP Crime said thereare two important things in it; one is the demand of heroin while another isits supply.

   

“It is a vicious circle and we are focusing to curb bothincluding its demand as well as its supply,” Mujtaba said, adding that theheroin was seized at various places so far by the police in its campaignagainst the drug abuse. He added that besides heroin, the poppy cultivation atvarious places was destroyed. “Police have also opened its drug addictioncentre. The drug addicts are basically ill and we need to treat them carefully.These addicts are getting medicines, besides counseling session and religioussession beings held for them,” he said, adding that these drug addicts arebeing pushed towards the sports,” he added.

Mujtaba said that people must cooperate with the police inthis regard, saying that if they have any information in this regard then theyshould immediately inform the police.
