High Court orders ‘temporary release’ of revenue official

J&K High Court has temporarily granted bail to a revenue official (Patwari) and ordered his release in view of the Supreme Court directions on decongesting of jails to avoid Coronavirus spread.

A bench of Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey passed the orders onan application filed by the Patwari through his counsel advocate MS Latief.

During the pendency of the conviction appeal filed by him,the Patwari moved the application and sought suspension of sentence and bail inview of the directions and the guidelines passed by the Supreme Court.

The Patwari was convicted in an FIR (No 39/2006) andsentenced to two years jail with fine of Rs 10,000. The revenue official ispresently lodged in District Jail Baramulla.

While suspending the sentence temporarily, the Court grantedbail to him on furnishing personal bond of Rs 50,000 to the satisfaction of theJail Superintendent concerned.

"The Jail Superintendent shall ensure release of the convicton bail after getting him medically examined and screened by the doctorsavailable in the jail," the Court said.

The SSP Baramulla and District Magistrate Baramulla weredirected to ensure screening of the Patwari and if found medically fit ensurehis return to home.
