Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that three militants carried out the attack on army men in HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar in which two soldiers died.
“Initial reports said that three militants were travelling in a Maruti car and two of them were carrying weapons, who fired indiscriminately at the army men leaving two of them seriously wounded. Reportedly, both injured soldiers have succumbed,” the IGP said, as per news agency KNO.
Kumar said that security forces are chasing the car. “It seems that Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit has carried out the attack,” he said.
The IGP, according to the report, said there seems to be the involvement of one or two foreign militants. “Things will be clear by the evening,” he added.
Giving details about the attack, an army spokesman said that the militants fired indiscriminately at a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of Indian Army in the general area Aban Shah Chowk, HMT, Khushipora, Srinagar today afternoon.
“Being a crowded area, troops exercised restraint to avoid any civilian casualties and collateral damage,” he said, in the statement.
