Huge quantity of illicit timber seized in Kupwara; 2 forest officials suspended

Two officials of forest department were suspended after the forest protection force recovered huge quantity of illicit timber in Warnow forest area of Lolab in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district Thursday.

An official said that on the basis of recovery of illicittimber and the negligence in their duty, a block forest officer (forester) andbeat guard of Warnow range have been placed under suspension. “The suspensionhas been ordered as the recovery has been made in their jurisdiction. Theinvestigation is going on to check their involvement in the incident,” saiddistrict forest officer Abid Ahmad.

   

He said that on a specific tip off about the dumping ofillicit timber in Warnow forest, a team of FPF rushed to the area and bustedthe hideout of smugglers where the timber was dumped, seizing a huge quantityof illicit timber.

“The illicit timber was recovered from compartment 68, ateam was deputed to the area to investigate and it was found that the timber isold,” said Abid Ahmad.

He said that 171 cubic feet timber was recovered and seized.”After proper investigation, the team will submit the report to my office andaccordingly more stern action will be taken against those involved,” said theDFO said.

“Due to heavy snowfall in the forests the area remains cutoff. It is yet not known who had dumped the illicit timber because it wasdumped in the forest area. A case is being submitted to the concerned policestation for criminal action,” the DFO added.
