Forest officials Monday seized a vehicle (JKO9-2724) with illicit timber in Shanoo Muqam village of north Kashmir’s Handwara sub-district while Police seized illicit timber from Shalpora area of Langate.
A Forest official said that on a specific tipoff a cordon was set up in the area during which a vehicle was intercepted and upon its checking, 45 cfts illicit timber was recovered.
A senior Forest officer confirmed the seizure of the vehicle with illicit timber and said, “We are investigating where from the timber was brought. I assure stern action will be taken against those involved in smuggling.”
The vehicle along with the timber was shifted to Forest Division Langate but the driver of the vehicle “fled” from the spot.
Meanwhile Police seized illicit timber in Shalpora area of Langate.
Police raided the house of a local and recovered 8 logs of illicit timber from the courtyard of his house, a Police official said.
