IMD to install 2 Doppler Weather Radar Systems in Kashmir

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will install Mobile Doppler Weather Radar System at Gumri which will provide round-the-clock severe weather surveillance and issue necessary extreme weather alerts for pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra.

Another Radar System will be installed at Uri in Baramullawhich will monitor Western Disturbances towards the Valley and provides preciseweather predictions.

   

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan todaychaired a meeting to review logistic arrangements for the successfulinstallation of the Systems at Gumri and Uri.

He directed Deputy Commissioners of Ganderbal and Baramullato provide every support to IMD which include proper space, Gensets and otherbasic amenities within three days so that the weather systems will be installedat the locations in a hassle-free manner.

After the successful culmination of Yatra, the WeatherSystem at Gumri will be shifted to Banihal for providing severe weather alertsfor south Kashmir, National Highway and Chenab Valley for the remaining periodof the year.

IMD will also install the Weather Systems at Jammu and Lehdivisions for accurate weather updates to the people.

The Divisional Commissioner assured the officers of IMD thatthe State administration will provide necessary support for successfulestablishment of the Systems across Jammu and Kashmir.

He also stressed upon the officers to make sure that allnecessary arrangements are made well in time besides the need for closecoordination among different agencies for successful conduct of Yatra.
