A fresh spell of rain lashed the plains across Jammu and Kashmir while the higher reaches received moderate snowfall on Friday.
“Inclement weather is likely to continue for the next 24 hours,” a spokesman of Meteorological department said.
He said ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district, received three inches snowfall and night temperature at the world famous resort settled at minus 1.6 degree, which is still 4 degree above normal.
The spokesman said that Srinagar received intermittent rain since late last night though the night temperature improved marginally and settled at 6.8 degree, which is over 5 degree above normal.
He said that night temperature at Qazigund and Kokernag improved and settled at 5.4 degree and 5.6 degree, Celsius respectively.
Leh town, officials said, recorded minus 0.4 degree Celsius. At minus 4.3 degree Celsius Kargil was the coldest town in the state.
Jammu city recorded 14.8, Katra 12.4, Batote and Banihal recorded 6.1, Bhaderwah 6.7 and Udhampur 13 degree Celsius as the minimum temperatures on Friday, they added.
“Despite inclement weather, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was thrown open for one-way traffic late Friday afternoon,” senior superintendent of police, traffic, (Rural), Ajaz Ahmad Bhat told Greater Kashmir.
Another official said that heavy rainfall had triggered shooting stones at some places on the highway in Ramban district that subsequently led to its closure. However, the highway was cleared in the afternoon and the traffic was allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar.
4 INJURED IN BANIHAL ACCIDENT
Meanwhile, four persons were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Banihal on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
An eyewitness said that the truck hit a car bearing registration no. JK19-3511 on the front side near Gund-Tethar.
Incharge police post Jawahar Tunnel, Shamim Ahmed, said the car was on way to Ramban from Kashmir.
The injured were moved to sub district hospital Banihal for treatment. They were identified as Sara Begum and Aijaz Ahmed, both residents of Neel Banihal; and Muhammad Arif and Zahida Begum, both resident of Alinbass, Banihal.
Police have registered a case in this regard.
