Terming the recent statement of United Nations (UN) as significant wherein it expressed concern over the rising tension between India and Pakistan and stressed upon them to solve their issues through peaceful means, Hurriyat Conference (M) today said "this shows international community is concerned about Kashmir."
In a statement, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said rising tension between the two nations over the issue of Kashmir was with every passing day taking a dangerous turn. "The confrontational approach between the two nations has in past given rise to armed conflicts and wars, resulting in death and destruction at large scale and the rising current tensions between the two nations is taking an alarming shape," the statement said.
"At this crucial juncture, the concern of UN over Kashmir and the offer of mediation to solve the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan through peaceful dialogue shows that International community is deeply concerned about the Kashmir issue and is keenly watching the situation over here," he said.
The spokesman said that "it further proves that there is a growing realization at international level that without resolving Kashmir issue, the clouds of a nuclear conflict are going to remain there which endangers the peace of the region and the world."
"The numerous agreements and rounds of bilateral negotiations have failed to solve the Kashmir issue from past 70 years," the statement said. "As such, the third party mediation becomes inevitable to solve the issue of Kashmir between India and Pakistan."
The Hurriyat spokesman paid glowing tributes to the five youth of Handwara area on their first martyrdom anniversary who were killed by forces while protesting against an alleged molestation of a local girl by RR personnel. "In spite of ordering probe, the forces personnel involved in the killing of unarmed protesting youth were not brought to justice till date," the spokesman said.
