JK to be fully electrified by year end, says RK Singh

All un-electrified households in Jammu and Kashmir would start receiving electricity supply by the end of the year, Union Minister of Power, RK Singh said Saturday.

Addressing a function here at SKICC Singh said after the BJP-led NDA came to power in New Delhi 134 of the un-electrified villages in the state were supplied electricity.

But, he said a population of 4.5 lakh people in the state was still without electricity.

“All of them would get electricity connection by December 2018. Given the progress made by the state power department we are hopeful that the target will be achieved by November this year only,” Singh said.

The union minister said the power scenario in the state would improve with the inauguration of 330 megawatt Kishenganga hydropower project owned by India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The state would get 13 percent power free from the project as royalty.

The power minister said New Delhi was doing everything possible to ensure round-the-clock power supply in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the soon to start construction of 1000 megawatt PakalDul project, a joint venture between NHPC and state Power Development Corporation, would go a long way in realising the dream.
