J&K State Legal Services Authority (JKSLSA) Saturday organized a National Lok Adalat across the state in which 24854 Cases including 278 MACT cases were disposed of while Rs 12.84 Crore was awarded as compensation. In 671 Bank recovery Cases nearly Rs 10.51 Crores were also recovered.
"A Total 24854 Cases were disposed of in the National Lok Adalat which included, 278 MACT cases wherein amount of Rs,12.84 Crores was awarded as compensation, 671 Bank recovery Cases where in 10.51 Crores amount was recovered," R N Watal, Member Secretary J&K SLSA in said in a statement.
The National Lok Adalat was organized across the State of J&K at High Court as well as district and tehsil levels under the patronage of Chief Justice and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, Justice N.Paul Vasanthakumar and under the guidance of Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir,Judge.
At High Court wing Jammu two benches were constituted to deal with the cases in the Lok Adalat, one was headed by Justice Bansi Lal Bhat(Retd) and assisted by District and Sessions Judges, Sanjay Dhar and Muhammad Akram Chowdhary while the other was headed by Justice O P Sharma (Retd) assisted by District and Sessions judges, R. K. Wattal, and Sanjeev Gupta.
Justice N.Paul Vasanthakumar, Patron in- Chief J&K SLSA accompanied by Justice Aloke Arade, inspected the National Lok Adalat at High Court Wing of Jammu and District Court Complex Jammu and gave the compensation cheques to the victims of Motor Accident.
At High Court wing of Srinagar, The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K SLSA in presence of Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey, Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee. The Executive Chairman also gave the compensation cheques to the victims of Motor accident.
In the Srinagar wing of High Court only one bench was constituted headed by Justice Hasnain Massodi (Retd) assisted by district and Sessions Judges, Yaspal Bourney and Shyam Lal. In the national Lok Adalat organized at District Headquaters Anantnag as well as other district headquarters under the aegis of District Services Legal Authority(DLSA) , 159 cases of various nature were disposed of .
A compensation of Rs one lakh was awarded in an accident claim and an amount of Rs 87739 was realized in petty offences as settled amount. Muhammad Ashraf Malik, Chairman DLSA supervised over all functioning of the said Lok Adalat.
