Karnah residents demand tunnel at Sadhna Top

Scores of members from Sadhna tunnel coordination committee on Tuesday held a protest here demanding construction of Sadhna tunnel connecting Karnah to the rest of Kashmir.

The members were accompanied by the locals of Karnah whoassembled at Press Colony here amid slogans in favour of their demand.

   

The members of the tunnel coordination committee raisedslogans: “Karnah ke saath na-insaafi na manzoor na manzoor.” The General Secretaryof the committee, Sheikh Ghulam Nabi, said that the government has failed tohelp the people of Karnah while they are going through these miserable times.He said the Karnah road was closed for three months and people are lackingbasic necessities like food, power supply, etc.

The members threatened boycott of elections. “The road isclosed for three months now. We do not have food to eat, there is no powersupply and no gas so that we can cook food. The government has failed to helpus. We are going to boycott elections,” said a local from Karnah.

“The government should consider our situation. A 6 km tunnel should be constructed at Sadhna Top, or the government can open the Teetwal road and build a highway from where we can travel to Srinagar from Uri,” said another resident Ghulam Nabi.
