Kashmir land of tragedies: DFP

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has paid rich tributes to the victims of Bijbehara massacre on their 25th anniversary.

“The party remembered all the martyrs of Kashmir and pledged to take their mission forward till the goal is achieved,” a DFP spokesman said in a statement.

He termed October 23, 1993, as the “black day” in the history of Kashmir when around 50 innocent persons were massacred by forces at Bijbehara by firing on them during a peaceful protest.

“The people, who were fired upon and killed ruthlessly, were protesting against the continuous siege of revered Dargah Hazratbal shrine,” the spokesman said.

He said, “Kashmir has become a land of tragedies. Memories of Bijbehara, Hawal, Zakura, Gaw Kadal, Anantnag and Chatti Singhpora massacre still haunt the people of Kashmir.”

“People of Kashmir rose after every massacre and are continuously putting forward their just demand of right to self determination,” the spokesman added.

“DFP expresses surprise that culprits of Bijbehara massacre are roaming free, hence encouraging the men in uniform to go ahead with the killings in Kashmir the latest example of which was seen at Kulgam where 10 persons were killed,” the spokesman said.
