Kashmir shuts over militant, civilian killings

Shutdown is being observed across Kashmir over the militant and civilian killings on Sunday.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for shutdown on Sunday over killing of three militants and a civilian.

   

The weekly Sunday market in commercial hub Lal Chowk also remained shut, while public transport remained off the roads.

Contingents of paramilitary forces were deployed in region’s capital particularly old city areas, where situation remains tense following the killing of three militants, including a Fateh Kadal resident in yesterday’s nine hour long gunbattle in Chattabal.

The passions were flared up in Srinagar parts after a video clip showing police armored vehicle mowing down a protestor, Adil Ahmad Yadoo in Noorbagh area.

Residents of downtown Srinagar said strict restrictions have been enforced in their areas as they are not allowed to move out freely.

Three militants identified as Fayaz Ahmad Hamal from Srinagar’s Fateh Kadal locality, Showkat Ahmad Tak from Awantipora and other believed to be foreigner were killed in the gunfight at Chattabal.

Meanwhile, police has asked medical aspirants to call on 100 in case they face any inconvenience.
