Srinagar, July 14:  At a time when SMHS hospital continues to receive the youth with bullet and pellet   injuries, Aliya Mir, a young lady from Noorbagh area, has shown humanity survives in the midst of state brutality which people are facing.  She left her sister, a kidney patient, alone in the hospital ward to instead support and comfort an injured Amarnath Yatra pilgrim, a lady from Meerut who was badly injured in a road accident on Srinagar-Jammu highway in which a pilgrim died and 22 others were injured.

Aliya had come to the hospital with her sister who was in pain due to an 8mm kidney stone which required surgery. Seeing the injured pilgrim in distress, she left her sister alone in her bed and instead chose to comfort the injured lady for hours in the surgical ward. She sat with her on the bed, helped her with food and clothes and made her to sit on the bed, herself sitting behind her for hours, supporting her like a cushion.

"I felt like helping her and I left my own sister to be with this lady as she is away from her home this time," said Aliya, who's a housewife, adding that she did the right thing. "This is what humanity teaches us even at a time when their forces outside are shooting our boys."

The pilgrim lady, who was badly injured in the accident, is covered with bandages on her head, right arm and leg. She can barely speak a few words with difficulty.  Slowly bringing together her hands, she expresses gratitude every time she's asked about her welfare by local volunteers who looked after all the injured pilgrims in the hospital without any discrimination, ensuring that they had food and clothes and all their needs were met in time.
