The Kashmiri writers and artists have expressed sorrow over the loss of lives during the ongoing public protests.

In a joint statement, Dr Farooq Fayaz, Shabir Mujahid, Zameer Ashai, Qazi Faiz, GM Wani, Ayash Arif, Mushtaq Bala, Shakeel-ul-Rehman, Javed Geelani, Mushtaq Wani and others condemned, what they said, the excessive use of force by the security agencies to maintain law and order.

They have appealed the government to direct the forces to follow strictly the standard set principles during crowd management.

"We also condemn the ban on print media and other communications and news channels and dub it as worst kind of arrogance and high-handedness," they said and appealed to state and central governments to talk to all stake holders for durable peace and progress of the state.
