Kathua rally indicator of dangers: Farooq Abdullah

Expressing shock over a rally in Kathua led by a BJP leader in support of a special police officer (SPO) arrested for rape and murder of an eight year old a nomad girl, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said the rally is an indication of dangers confronting the state.

“The PDP’s coalition partner (BJP) is hell bent on giving religious color to this horrific crime. It is shocking to see leaders from political parties joining a rally in which national flag was carried in support of the accused,” said Abdullah.

“It is an insult to the national flag when people come out in support of the rape and murder accused while waving the flag,” he said.

While interacting with delegations of party workers from various districts, Abdullah said he expects the government to swiftly act in the case that shook the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the government should ensure that the accused is awarded the punishment that sets an example.

Abdullah also cautioned the government against shifting the location of the central university in Ganderbal to any other place in the Valley.

“First the Islamic University was shifted from Ganderbal and now attempts are being made to shift the central university from the district,” a delegation told Farooq.
