The death toll reached eight in the Kreeri gunfight as a soldier who was critically wounded during the operation succumbed on Tuesday, the army said.
In a statement, an army spokesman said that one more militant was killed in the gunfight today, taking the number of militants killed in the operation to three.
He said two soldiers who were wounded in the gunfight also succumbed. “An AK rifle and three pistols were recovered,” he said, adding that the joint operation is in progress.
Three security personnel, including a cop, were killed on Monday morning after militants attacked a naka party of the police and the CRPF.
Security forces had chased the militants after the attack and killed two of them including Sajad Haider — a top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit in north Kashmir.
Another militant was killed on the second day of the operation, the officials said.
