Amid clashes many areas of Kulgam district observed a complete shutdown on Saturday against the establishment of a new army camp at Redwani village.
Locals told Greater Kashmir that Army's 1 RR established a camp a few days back at Redwani village where both forces are camped. "This camp should be removed as it has been set up without any permission from district administration," they added.
" There are at least four camps within the radius of 6 kilometers at Khudwani, Rampora, Frisal and now Redwani," said Jehangir Ahmad, a local.
He said ever since the camp was established there have been frequent clashes between forces and youth.
Seeking the removal of camp, locals held a protest here. " We will continue with shutdown until the camp is removed," the protesters said.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic off the roads in Qaimoh, Khudwani , Redwani, Ghat, Hawoora and Mishpora.
Clashes also erupted between youth and government forces. " Youth pelted stones on the forces who in-turn lobbed tear shells and fired pellets," a witness said.
