Kupwara minor boy’s killing: Govt hands over investigation to Crime Branch

After one and a half month of investigation by Kupwara Police in the case of a minor who was killed under mysterious conditions in Kupwara, Government authorities have now handed over the case to Crime Branch wing of Jammu and Kashmir police to investigate the Brutal killing of Umer Farooq.

Reports said that after locals demand that there should be an impartial probe in the killing of the minor of Gulgam Kupwara, the case has been handed over to crime branch.

   

Umar Farooq (10) son of Farooq Ahmad Malik who went missing on 17 July this year from his native village Gulgam about 4kms from main town Kupwara, Locals found his burnt body in a Nallah in Gushi village after 4 days of missing on 21 July.

The boy, a resident of Gulgam area, had gone missing when he left home on Monday evening. The next day, residents blocked the Kupwara-Tangdhar road and held protests, which continued for days.

IGP Crime Syed Afadul Mujtaba told Greater Kashmir that the case file of Killing of Umer Farooq has been sent to our branch for investigation, “the file is under investigation, we will have a discussion with the doctors present in the postmortem, and an SIT has been constituted under DSP Mohammad Afzal.” Mujhtuba said.

Earlier an SIT was formed by SSP Kupwara Shri Ram Ambarkar Dinkar headed by ASP Kupwara Shafqat Hussain to probe the incident. 

In this connection, a case FIR No. 192/2018 under section 302, 363 RPC has been registered in police station Kupwara.

However sources said the police could not trace the culprits even after forty days of the tragic incident forcing government authorities to handover the case to Crime branch.
